About
Purple Island is the pair of small islands Banwol-do and Bakji-do off Anjwa-do, reached on foot across the wooden Purple Bridges over the sea. From 2019 the villages painted roofs, bridges, and walkways purple, a theme drawn from the wild purple asters that grow on the islands. Visitors find lavender beds, purple photo zones, and cafes across the two islands.
In December 2021 the UN World Tourism Organization named it one of its Best Tourism Villages, chosen from 170 villages across 75 countries.
