
East Asia's oldest surviving astronomical observatory, built during Queen Seondeok's reign (632-647 CE) in the Silla Kingdom capital of Gyeongju. The bottle-shaped stone tower stands 9.17 meters tall, constructed with 365 granite stones representing the days of the year. The 12 base stones symbolize the months, and the square window at the center marks the equinoxes. Designated National Treasure No. 31.
