Daereungwon Tomb Complex

A walled park in central Gyeongju containing 23 large and small burial mounds of Silla kings, queens, and aristocrats from the 4th to 6th centuries. The complex is best known for Cheonmachong (Heavenly Horse Tomb), excavated in 1973 and the only royal tomb whose interior is open to the public, displaying a replica burial chamber and recovered grave goods including the famous birch-bark painting of a heavenly horse. The grassy mounds set against pine groves are the defining image of historic Gyeongju.
