About
A small ancient woodland between Cheomseongdae and Woljeonggyo, designated Historic Site No. 19 in 1963. Gyerim ('rooster forest') is associated with the founding myth of the Gyeongju Kim clan: in 65 CE, King Talhae's minister found a golden box hanging from a tree branch under a crowing rooster, and inside lay the infant Kim Alji. A monument commemorating the legend was erected in 1803. The 7,300 m² grove of old oak, zelkova, willow, and Japanese pagoda trees is freely open and quiet.
