Korea Tourism OrganizationA UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, Seokguram is an 8th-century Buddhist grotto on Mount Toham, originally constructed under royal patronage of King Gyeongdeok by the Silla statesman Kim Daeseong. The granite chamber houses a 3.5 m seated Buddha facing the East Sea, surrounded by carved bodhisattvas, disciples, and guardian figures considered masterpieces of East Asian Buddhist art. Photography inside the chamber is prohibited; the interior is viewed through glass.
