Perfect Crown (Korean: 21세기 대군부인) reunites IU (Hotel Del Luna, My Mister) and Byeon Woo-seok (Lovely Runner) for the first time since Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo a decade ago. Set in an alternate-reality 21st-century Korea where the monarchy still exists.
IU plays Sung Hui-ju, the second daughter of Korea's top chaebol family. She has everything except noble status, and that frustration drives her into a contract marriage with Prince I-an (Byeon Woo-seok), the king's second son who holds a royal title but owns nothing.
Filmed from May 2025 to January 2026 across Korea's most significant historical sites. The production used real UNESCO World Heritage palaces and fortresses instead of studio sets, creating one of the most location-rich Korean dramas in recent memory. Every filming location listed below is open to visitors.

Perfect Crown was shot at 11 real locations across Korea: Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Kyung Hee University in Seoul; Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Namhansanseong Fortress in Gyeonggi Province; the Korean Folk Village in Yongin; Gyeongju Oreung (the Five Royal Tombs of Silla); Baekje Cultural Land in Buyeo; Gwanghallu Garden in Namwon; Mujinjeong Pavilion in Haman; and Gwangan Bridge in Busan. Every site is open to the public.
Yes — all 11 are public sites. Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces cost 3,000 won each and are free if you wear hanbok; Changdeokgung's Secret Garden is a separate 5,000-won guided tour. The Hwaseong and Namhansanseong fortress walls are free to walk, while their inner Haenggung palaces cost 1,500 and 2,000 won. Gwanghallu Garden in Namwon is 4,000 won (free after 6 PM or in hanbok). Gyeongju Oreung is free. The Korean Folk Village and Baekje Cultural Land are paid theme-park-style sites — check their official websites for current prices. Kyung Hee University's campus is open and free to walk. Gwangan Bridge is a vehicle-only bridge, best viewed from Gwangalli Beach. Most palaces and parks close one day a week.
Both Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul — the production used real UNESCO World Heritage palaces rather than studio sets. Gyeongbokgung's Geunjeongjeon throne hall appears in wide establishing shots, and Changdeokgung's Secret Garden (Huwon) provides quieter scenes. Baekje Cultural Land in Buyeo also features as a reconstructed Baekje-era royal complex.
Kyung Hee University's Seoul campus. Its European-style Grand Peace Hall and neo-Gothic main building stand in for the campus in the drama — both are longtime K-drama filming favorites, and the campus is open to visitors.
The three Seoul sites — Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, and Kyung Hee University — fit comfortably in one day. Suwon Hwaseong and Namhansanseong are easy day trips from Seoul, so the capital region takes about two to three days. Gyeongju Oreung, Baekje Cultural Land in Buyeo, Gwanghallu in Namwon, Mujinjeong in Haman, and Gwangan Bridge in Busan are spread across the country, so a full Perfect Crown pilgrimage needs a separate multi-day plan.
Perfect Crown (21세기 대군부인) airs on MBC in Korea and streams globally on Disney+. The 12-episode series ran from April 10 to May 16, 2026, on Fridays and Saturdays.
No. Perfect Crown is set in an alternate-reality 21st-century Korea where the Joseon monarchy never ended. The filming locations — palaces, fortresses, and traditional gardens — are all real historical sites, but the story and characters are fictional.
